The God that drowned

flying colours of fervour
of bawdy dances and heady tunes
our supreme god we revere
through showery nights and blistering noons

in the land of power cuts and nepotism
blinding lights embellish our deity
mighty edifices amidst squalor
display our twisted sense of beauty

we stand for divinity
as evident in our demeanour
we seek blessings and forgiveness
and we demand much more

not selfless worship
hedonism coupled with greed
is rooted in our own desire
asking for more than we need

for the remaining year, good or bad
bad or worse to be found
we play our tricks shamelessly
forgetting the god that drowned
